CLEARFIELD – These bears are the inaugural collectible critter made available to United Way from Boyd’s Bears.
According to Clearfield Area United Way Treasurer Brenda Terry, the bears are available for a donation of $15 and are at Sandee’s Candies & Gifts and Gardner’s Candy, the United Way office and can also be mailed to you. The story that is on the hang card with the two bears
is that it’s black in keeping with our state bear, it is named B. Franklin in honor of Ben Franklin’s 300th birthday and Boyd’s Bears are made in Adams County, hence the Baby Adams.
Terry said to hurry because there is a limited number available and the CAUW has had people pick them up for stocking stuffers, gifts for grandkids in or out of town, to add to a baby shower basket, for birthdays, retirement gifts and even for former area residents. CAUW representatives said the best was when a gentleman recently purchased one to attach some jewelry to it for that special someone.
The funds will helps fund 25 local member agencies of the Clearfield Area United Way, which works tirelessly each year to reach thousands of people of all ages. It was noted that 12,000 of these bears were made, and with only 12 Pennsylvania United Ways in the state participating, they are only available in certain areas and are going quickly.
