Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub is One of America’s Best Restaurants

CLEARFIELD – Local restaurant, Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub, on Tuesday hosted a visit from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR).

America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, brought its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant with host Theo Williams.

Popular dishes were filmed, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owner Dennis Liegey about the restaurant’s special place in the community.

The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.

Open since 1977, Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub began its early days with a menu of prepackaged sandwiches and fifty-cent bottled beer in a building that totaled 600 square feet.

After about a year, Liegey and his wife purchased property and began building the present location of Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub. It is now run by Dennis Liegey III, Leigey’s son, who has worked in the business for over 25 years.

The menu at Denny’s is extensive, with an enormous variety of burgers, appetizers, salads, seafood, steaks, barbecue, milkshakes and specialty cocktails.

They also have 40 beers on draft, all served in a cozy, rustic ambience with wood-paneled walls and a busy, sports-and-beer themed decor.

Popular menu items that may be featured on the episode include Coach’s Wings, sauced with a special blend of barbecue and spices (one of 32 sauce varieties served), the Old School Stuffed Pepper Burger, which features a sausage stuffed pepper on top of a burger, and the McAfee “412” burger, named after Pat McAfee, an ESPN sports analyst. It is a blend of ground beef and pastrami, topped with red slaw, fries and cheese.

But, the biggest draw for Denny’s may be the burger challenges, which have landed the pub on the Food Network, Travel Channel and in the Guinness Book of World Records for the ‘Ye Olde 96er’, the largest hamburger you can order in a restaurant, according to Liegey.

It weighs in at six pounds of beef, and there is a three-hour time limit to eat the whole thing.

“We have created a fun place for people to meet and relax and enjoy unique food specials and drinks,” notes Liegey. “We are most proud of being part of our community and providing good jobs to our employees.”

Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub offers sponsorships and does fundraising for numerous charities and organizations in the community, including local schools, Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army, veterans and first responders and the Clearfield County Fair.

The restaurant’s finished episode premiere date will be announced on its Facebook page and will be featured on America’s Best Restaurants’ Web site.

Restaurants featured on the ABR Roadshow are selected based on their customer reviews, menu items, social media presence and level of involvement with their community.

They are found through customer nominations, internal vetting or by a restaurant applying to be featured at www.americasbestrestaurants.com.
