Square One Junior High Wrestling Tourney Held

HYDE — The Square One Classic Junior High Wrestling Tournament was held at Clearfield High School on Saturday December 28.

Taking the team title with 108 points was State College. The host Bison finished second with 88, followed by Philipsburg-Osceola with 80.

The rest of the teams were as follows: Curwensville (70), Shaler (58), Punxsutawney (58), Penn Cambria (58), Brockway (58),  Kane (52),  Bradford (24), Marion Center (22), Moshannon Valley (20), Central Cambria (12), Portage (12), West Branch (2).

Clearfield also won the team strength award, which was awarded to the team that averaged the highest scoring total per wrestler with an average of 7.3 points per wrestler, second place was Curwensville with 5.83 and Punxsutawney third with an average of 5.80.

The Outstanding Wrestler Award, as voted on by the coaches, went to Trenton Hoover of Penn Cambria, who edged Clearfield’s Brady Collins 4-2 in OT in the finals.

Local individual champions were Nate Fleck, PO (108); Will Domico, Clearfield (130); Logan Aughenbaugh, Curwensville (138), and Andrew Hensel, PO (190).

Also placing for Clearfield were Elliot Minor, (4th, 87), Brady Collins (2nd, 101), Ty Aveni (2nd, 115), Carter Freeland (2nd, 122), Patrick Knepp (3rd, 138), Camden Gormont (5th, 138), Carter Chamberlain (2nd, 170), Eric Myers (4th, 210)
