The Bucktail Council was recognized on Monday, April 29 by the National Boy Scouts of America as a Gold achiever for its performance in the Journey to Excellence program as it celebrates 89 years.

Scouting’s Journey to Excellence is the BSA’s planning, performance and recognition program designed to encourage and reward the success of its units, districts and councils.  It is meant to encourage excellence in providing a quality program at all levels of the BSA.

The Bucktail Council recorded its eighth year of membership growth in the last nine years while serving more than 2,100 individuals in its service area.

The Bucktail Council serves the areas of Cameron, Clearfield, Elk and Jefferson counties along with the western portion of Centre County.

Increases in unit level advancement, camp attendance, fundraising and leader training highlighted some of Bucktail’s achievements.

In 2018 the Bucktail Council, through its membership, gave back to the communities it serves nearly $200,000 in service projects.  None of this would be possible without the hard-working volunteers and generous donors.

Pictured are James B. Davis, Bucktail Council commissioner; Gregg Bennett, Bucktail Council scout executive; E. George Downer, Bucktail Council president; Tom Lusk, Northeast Region Area 4 president; and Russ DeVore, Northeast Region Area 4 commissioner.
