HARRISBURG – Tom Wolf won his bid for re-election as governor of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania on Tuesday night. His running-mate John Fetterman will serve as his lieutenant governor.
Several national media outlets projected Wolf as the winner over Republican opponent Scott Wagner within minutes of polls closing.
With 98 percent of districts reporting at 11:59 p.m., Wolf had 2,698,746 votes, or 57.78 percent, while Wagner had 1,900,541, or 40.69 percent.
According to his Web site, Wolf’s record includes addressing the opioid crisis; investing in education and preparing students for 21st century jobs; improving school safety and security; expanding workforce development opportunities; expanding Medicaid and reducing the uninsured rate; legalizing medical marijuana; and fighting for a minimum wage increase among others.
He became the 47th governor of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania in January of 2015.
Wolf, a Democrat, previously served on the economic development board and on the Pennsylvania Legislative Commission on Urban Schools.
Wolf also served as the Pennsylvania Secretary for the Department of Revenue from April of 2007 until his resignation in November of 2008.
