HARRISBURG – Incumbent Sen. Bob Casey Jr. (D-PA) has won his third U.S. Senate term over his Republican opponent Lou Barletta.

Several national media outlets projected Casey as the winner after polls closed earlier Tuesday night.

With 97 percent of districts reporting at 11:46 p.m., Casey had 2,546,042 votes, or 55.65 percent, while Barletta had 1,954,198, or 42.71 percent.

According to Casey’s Web site, he has spent two terms “representing the people of Pennsylvania in the Senate, fighting for good jobs, higher wages and fairer workplaces. He is a leader with proven results for workers, women, children, seniors and people with disabilities.

“He’s worked to create family-sustaining jobs and foster financial security for Pennsylvania families; protect our children and invest in their futures; ensure safety at home and respect for America abroad; promote honesty and accountability in government; preserve the dignity of the vulnerable of all ages among us; and advocate for his constituents and help them solve problems they face.”

Casey currently serves on the Senate Committee on Finance; Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; Special Committee on Aging; the Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism Caucus; and National Security Working Group.

Casey was first elected to his Senate seat in 2006. He also previously served as Pennsylvania’s auditor general and state treasurer.
