CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area United Way recently donated books to benefit children participating in the Salvation Army’s lunch and literacy program.
The donation of books was part of the CAUW’s Reading Ripples Project and the upcoming National Day of Action.
Books were presented to Captain Helen Johnson and Office Manager Linda Swatsworth of the Salvation Army.
“There is no such thing as a wrong day to give back,” commented Nancy Pinto of the Clearfield Area United Way.
Each year nationally, United Ways participate in a service day, also known as the Day of Action.
Pinto commented that it’s the “perfect way to show by example” and what it means to “Live United.”
During the Day of Action, the focus is on giving to charity either financial support or items. The Salvation Army is among the CAUW’s 23 local member agencies.
Gently-used books are collected by CAUW for “Reading Ripples” and then coordinated, processed and distributed to other agencies and organizations.

“We have more books currently available,” added Debbie Bowser, CAUW president. “If we get a call, we would be glad to deliver them to children’s groups who love to read.”
