Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program Officially Starts With First Sale in Butler

BUTLER – Relief arrived Thursday for thousands of patients across Pennsylvania as the first sale in the state’s medical marijuana program took place in Butler.

The CY+ (pronounced “see why plus”) dispensary was the first dispensary to be approved and open their doors and they were met by many card-carrying patients that have been waiting for this new form of medicine to finally be available.

“This is a dream come true and I am ecstatic to be one of the first caregivers to legally purchase medical marijuana in the state. We are ready to begin the next phase Ryan’s journey of healing with this amazing medicine,” said Diana Briggs, whose son Ryan suffers from up to 400 seizures a day and has experienced numerous side effects using traditional prescription medications.

“I am feeling so many different emotions making my first purchase of medical marijuana legally in Pennsylvania, from excitement that Hannah and others will finally have access to a safe alternative treatment option, to relief that I will not have to worry about where I am going to get her product or if it will get to me timely,” said Heather Shuker, whose daughter, Hannah suffers from severe intractable epilepsy.

The dispensary opened the doors of its modern, patient-focused facility Thursday morning with more than 100 patient consultations scheduled for their first week in operations.

CY+ will be accepting walk-in consultations between the hours of 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

More than 4,000 patients have been issued a medical marijuana card by the Pennsylvania Department of Health after being certified by a physician for having one of the 17 serious medical conditions.

Those interested in more information on getting a card should visit www.pa.gov.

The CY+ dispensary will carry more than 100 different, pharmaceutical-grade, medical marijuana products with a variety of delivery methods including capsules, oils, waxes, concentrates and tinctures.

The staff has been trained and educated by national medical experts to guide patients in their choice of strain and consumption method most appropriate for their medical condition.

“We want patients to feel as comfortable in our dispensary that they would in their local pharmacy as they are now both places you can get medicine in Pennsylvania,” said Cresco Yeltrah Co-Founder Charlie Bachtell.

Cresco Yeltrah was awarded two permits in the state’s very rigorous application process and operates a cultivation facility in Brookville that will provide medical marijuana products to dispensaries across the state, including their three owned and operated CY+ locations.
