CLEARFIELD – A brief update was given by Commissioner Mark B. McCracken on Tuesday concerning the proposed Camp Hope Run Landfill.
According to previous GANT News reports, PA Waste LLC has submitted a new landfill permit application to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
More specifically, it’s proposing a landfill and supporting features to be located on an approximate 845-acre facility boundary in Boggs Township.
Also, it would contain an approximate 217-acre waste disposal area with support facilities and buffer areas.
Local officials, including the commissioners, participated in a Local Municipal Involvement Process (LMIP) meeting concerning the landfill proposal at the end of August.
On Tuesday McCracken reported that since then:
- The commissioners, along with Solid Waste Authority Director Jodi Brennan, have held a meeting with PennDOT officials to discuss the highway occupancy permit application process.
- The commissioners have received notification that Phase I of the PA Waste permit application has been determined to be “administratively complete” by the DEP.
- The commissioners have done a teleconference with DEP officials concerning the timeframe for their review of the landfill permit application. The DEP has decided the review will be a 250-day period, which begins when Phase II of the application is determined to be “administratively complete” by DEP.
McCracken noted that the review period will exclude weekends and holidays. It will stop/start anytime there’s an issue that PA Waste has to resolve with its application.
McCracken concluded by saying the commissioners intend to keep members of the public informed and to engage them throughout the process.
