LOCK HAVEN — Graduate student Jesse Hoover (Curwensville) climbed into Lock Haven’s all-time Top 10 reception list with the second of his four catches in Saturday’s 34-13 Homecoming loss to undefeated West Chester, the No. 15-ranked team in NCAA Division II.
The 6-1, 205-pounder has hauled in 108 passes, good for ninth place, during his four-year career that includes 35 starts in his 38 games at wide receiver for the Bald Eagles.
Hoover picked up 37 yards in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division clash that attracted 2,953 fans to Hubert Jack Stadium, while sophomore running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) added eight yards on two carries and also averaged 24 yards on two kickoff runbacks.
Lock Haven fell to 2-5 with its fourth consecutive loss and is 1-4 in the PSAC-East. West Chester (7-0) is one of three teams atop the division at 4-0.
Hoover has 30 receptions for 289 yards and one touchdown this season.
Swales has rushed 19 times for 52 yards and one TD, caught five passes for 55 yards and returned 18 kickoffs for a 19.9 average.
Both players have assisted on one tackle.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Redshirt sophomore defensive back Derek Morgan (Clearfield) was involved in one tackle as Slippery Rock (6-1) celebrated breaking into the D2Football.com Top 25 Poll at No. 24 with a 34-13 conquest of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division rival Clarion in front of a Homecoming crowd of 8,110 in Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore long snapper Eric White (Clearfield) was on the field for one extra point, two field goals and five punts for Clarion (1-6) in the fourth annual “Milk Jug” game.
The Rock is 3-1 in the PSAC-West after its fourth win in a row. The Golden Eagles are 1-3 in the division and heading in the opposite direction with four consecutive setbacks.
Morgan is fifth on The Rock defense with 17 solo stops and seventh with 27 total tackles. He has one interception and two pass break-ups.
White has assisted on three tackles in punt coverage.

MOON TOWNSHIP — Grad student Nick Redden (Clearfield) made his 17th consecutive start at center as Duquesne (4-2) spoiled the Northeast Conference opener for host Robert Morris (2-4) in a 21-20 squeaker watched by 2,893 fans at Joe Walton Stadium Saturday evening.
The Dukes, who have won three games in a row, sit atop the NEC at 2-0.

MILLERSVILLE — A knee injury that redshirt freshman quarterback Curtis Frye (Clearfield) suffered in the third quarter of his first start for Millersville on Oct. 12 has ended his rookie season.
The 5-11, 182-pounder launched passes in four of his six appearances, completing 34 of 54 for 328 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions, giving him a pass efficiency rating of 112.69.
He wound up with minus-53 yards for 15 keepers because of nine sacks.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State senior Gwenn Porter (Clearfield) placed 55th and St. Francis freshman Becca Johnson (Grampian/Curwensville Area H.S.) finished 80th among 94 runners in the Penn State National Friday morning.
Porter was the seventh Lady Lion to cross the finish line with a time of 23 minutes, 47 seconds for the 6,000-meter race over the Blue and White Golf Courses.
Johnson turned in a personal-best 25:15, almost 19 seconds better than her previous record, as the No. 6 Red Flash finisher.
Penn State was fourth with 106 points and St. Francis ninth with 224 points in the 10-team event won by West Virginia with 28 points.
