Obituary Notice: Joshua G. Harrington

Joshua G. Harrington, 97, of Chester Hill died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at his residence. Born Dec. 26, 1915 in Bigler, he was the son of the late John and Beatrice (Morgan) Harrington.

He was married June 8, 1947 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Philipsburg, to Irene (Pinto) Harrington, who survives at home.

He’s survived by two daughters and two sons, Barbara Harrington and Renee Beck and her husband, Tucker, all of Chester Hill, Craig Harrington of Martinsburg, WV and Douglas Harrington and his wife, Peggy of Allport; and one brother, Herman Harrington and his wife, Sherry of State College.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Kelly Conway, Tracy Hughes, Tom Beck, Crista Lynn Harrington and Amanda Harrington; eight great-grandchildren, Cadin Wingert, Landin Copley, Braxton Harrington, Ryan Hughes, Nickelle Hughes, Devin Conway, Tucker Beck and Cole Beck.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two, brothers, Charles and John Harrington.

He was a graduate of Philipsburg High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University.  He was a teacher and administrator for the Philipsburg-Osceola School District and also worked at Butterworth Motors.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Philipsburg, where he was a Deacon, trustee and Sunday school superintendent.

He was a Corporal in the Army Air Corps during the World War II Pacific Theatre.

He was a member of the Chester Hill Borough Council, Clearfield County Area of Aging and Penn State Alumni.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, 214 E. Beaver St., Philipsburg, with Pastor Ted G. Seibert officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the church by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received prior to service from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 214 E. Beaver St., Philipsburg, PA 16866 or to Asera Care Hospice, 1015 Logan Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.

Arrangements are under the direction of the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, PA.
