WASHINGTON – As a mark of respect for the memory of former Sen. Arlen Specter, President Barack Obama ordered in a proclamation today that American flags be flown at half-staff Tuesday, the day of Specter’s funeral.
Specter died Sunday at his home in Philadelphia after battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He was 82.
Obama has ordered all flags at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the U.S. and its territories and possessions until sunset.
Obama also directed that the flag should be flown at half-staff for the same period at all U.S. embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.
