When good teams lose they always find a way to make a statement in the next game, and that’s exactly what Clearfield did Friday night in St. Marys against the Dutch. Clearfield used stout man to man defense and rode the hot hands of Matt Shiner and Jarrin Campman who netted 22 and 21 points respectively to cruise to a 70-52 victory.
Clearfield got off to a hot start with much thanks to Matt Shiner\’s 14 points in the first quarter. The Bisons held a slim 19-17 lead after one quarter.
In the 2nd quarter the Bisons slowly built their lead with every Clearfield starter scoring at least one point in the frame and with Jarrin Campman leading the way with seven points in the quarter. Levi Welder for the Dutch did his part to keep Clearfield on their toes netting 14 points in the first half. At the intermission the Bisons lead 33-27.
Clearfield’s bench came up huge in the second half with Jeremy Priester scoring four points in the 3rd quarter and Chad Zurat creating havoc on the defensive end of the court with rebounding and pressure defense on Welder. Tyler Wilson and Nick Redden also provided valuable minutes in the victory. Trey Campman came up huge for the Bisons in the 3rd netting eight of his 14 points and causing the Dutch to change their defensive strategy. At the end of three quarters the Bisons had increased their lead to 13.
In the fourth, Parker Herrington scored two straight buckets to increase the Bison lead to 18 before a short spurt by the Dutch. After eight straight made free throws, four apiece by the Campman brothers, Clearfield had put the icing on the cake.
Free throws and turnovers were the key for the Bisons. Clearfield attempted 17 free throws to St. Marys\’ four, and also caused more turnovers than the Dutch.
