Woman Sentenced for Hindering Apprehension Incident

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield woman was sentenced to county jail on Tuesday for her role in helping a man attempt to avoid apprehension on Sept. 30, 2006.

Jennifer (Haversack) Lucas, 26, was sentenced to 90 days in Clearfield County Jail for aggravated assault. She was also sentenced to 3 years probation. She is to refrain from the use or possession of alcohol and controlled substances and is prohibited from entering any establishments that sell alcohol. She is also ordered to submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250 and to complete 100 hours of community service. Jennifer will service two days in jail because she already has 88 served, according to the Honorable Judge Paul E. Cherry. She was also ordered to pay fines and costs.

For hindering apprehension, she was sentenced to two years probation to run concurrent to the above sentence. For charges of public drunkenness and disorderly conduct Jennifer was ordered to pay fines.

Jennifer had a preliminary hearing last October. Michael Spencer, Lawrence Township Police officer, testified that he arrived at the Hyde Uni-Mart after receiving a call for a theft. He arrived, placed the man, Ricky Lucas, under arrest and in his police car. Spencer said he went back inside to review video footage of the incident.

Not long after, an unknown man came into the store and informed Spencer that a small, short female wearing a gray sweatshirt had let Ricky go. Spencer said the cashier, who was from the Hyde area, recognized the woman as someone who was in the store earlier with Ricky and that it was Jennifer Lucas.

Spencer called for back-up and soon he and other officers were canvassing the Hyde area. K-9 Zeus from Curwensville Borough Police Department caught Jennifer’s trail and eventually she was taken into custody. While this was going on, Jennifer was allegedly yelling, “Run Ricky,” and “I love you Ricky.”

Spencer said that when he told her to get moving to the police car, she kicked him a couple of times. Spencer and David Johnston of the Curwensville Borough Police Department both testified that while they were trying to put her in the car, she became combative and kicked Johnston a few times as well.
