Construction Worker Killed on I-80 Off-Ramp

WOODLAND – A 62-year-old Westover man was killed Wednesday when a tri-axle truck backed over him on an Interstate 80 off-ramp.

James E. Clark was apparently working to take measurements at the exit 123 off-ramp near Woodland in Bradford Township, according to police, when tri-axle dump trucks were backing up the off-ramp.

Lyle S. Thompson, 66, of Fannettsburg was backing his tri-axle up the ramp at about 3:30 p.m. when he did not see Clark. Clark also did not see or hear the tri-axle approaching him.

State police at Clearfield report that the center of the back of the tri-axle struck Clark, and the truck then drove over him.

Clark was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Deputy Coroner Michael Polachek.

Police stated that no charges will be filed in the incident.
