CLEARFIELD – Jennifer L. (Haversack) Lucas opted for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial Judge Richard Ireland on Wednesday.
Jennifer is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, two counts of resisting arrest, escape, hindering apprehension, public drunkenness, and four counts of disorderly conduct.
Michael Spencer, Lawrence Township Police officer, testified that he arrived at the Hyde Uni-Mart after receiving a call for a theft. He arrived, placed the man, Ricky Lucas, under arrest and in his police car. Spencer said he went back inside to review video footage of the incident.
Not long after, an unknown man came into the store and informed Spencer that a small, short female wearing a gray sweatshirt had let Ricky go. Spencer said the cashier, who was from the Hyde area, recognized the woman as someone who was in the store earlier with Ricky and that it was Jennifer Lucas.
Spencer called for back-up and soon he and other officers were canvassing the Hyde area. K-9 Zeus from Curwensville Borough Police Department caught Jennifer’s trail and eventually she was taken into custody. While this was going on, Jennifer was allegedly yelling, “Run Ricky,” and “I love you Ricky.”
Spencer said that when he told her to get moving to the police car, she kicked him a couple of times. Spencer and David Johnston of the Curwensville Borough Police Department both testified that while they were trying to put her in the car, she became combative and kicked Johnston a few times as well.
Ireland held all charges to court and refused to reduce bail because of the nature of the charges. Jennifer is in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $50,000 straight bail. Ricky had his hearing last week, and is in jail in lieu of $35,000 straight bail.
