The Department of Environmental Protection has announced the launch of eMine Operator, an online system making it easier for currently licensed mine operators to comply with state licensing and registration requirements.
The web-based application allows companies to electronically submit renewal applications for mine operator licenses, contract operator approvals and ownership and control registrations. It also enables them to pay license fees with a credit card instead of having to mail a check or money order.
“This electronic product combines DEP’s commitment to protecting the environment with our goal of providing excellent customer service to the industries we regulate,” Deputy Secretary for Active and Abandoned Mining Operations John Stefanko said.
eMine Operator is an eGovernment initiative led by DEP’s Bureau of Information Technology that will reduce paper, decrease mailing costs, eliminate data entry and improve data integrity and process efficiency.
Mine operators are required by law to renew their operator licenses annually. On average, there are more than 2,000 licensing transactions processed each year, costing taxpayers $44,573. eMine Operator could potentially save taxpayers $22,481 and industry $37,209 each year.
Applicants first need to register for secure access before submitting an online application. A registration form will be mailed to mine operators 90 days prior to their license’s expiration date, and they will then receive a username and password.
