PHILIPSBURG – Three new senior members of the local Civil Air Patrol Mid-State Flight No. 239 have completed their first training program.
First Lt. Justin Ogden, commander of Flight 239, presented the three senior members with Level 1 Completion certificates at a ceremony on Dec. 19. Completion of Level 1 is the first stage in the progression of the senior member program and entitles the recipients to participation in all CAP activities and further training.
Receiving the awards were Rosalea Cowfer and Lee Cowfer of Philipsburg and Rich Brnik of Grassflat.
Civil Air Patrol performs more than 95 percent of all inland search and rescue missions as assigned by the U.S. Air Force Rescue Coordinate Center. CAP offers programs for senior members, those above age 18, and for cadets, ages 12-18. Both cadets and seniors participate in training for and participation in search and rescue missions. Also, cadets receive opportunities to fly in CAP aircraft, learn leadership skills and much more.
