DUBOIS – After being on the lam for a little over one year, Timothy Wayne Atwood turned himself in to DuBois-based state police.

Atwood was found guilty by a jury of simple assault in 2005. He was then sentenced on July 7, 2005, to serve a minimum of 11 months in a state correctional institution. He was to report to Jefferson County Jail on Aug. 8, 2005, but failed to do so. A bench warrant was then issued for Atwood for failure to appear. An additional warrant was issued for flight to avoid apprehension or punishment by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. On Nov. 11, 2005, Atwood was entered into the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers.

On Dec. 26, state police received a tip from Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers with a phone number was provided. A trooper spoke with Atwood over the phone and convinced him that he should turn himself in.

Atwood then turned himself in on Saturday. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Richard Beck and is being held in Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $100,000 straight bail. Atwood has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 16.
