HERSHEY – Penn State Hershey Medical Center confirmed Thursday that it would waive the costs related to patients it received from a shooting inside an Amish schoolhouse in Bart Township, Lancaster County last week.
“Medical Center leadership decided last week, the hospital would not bill for the care provided in the aftermath of the shooting, but our standard practice is simple. We do not discuss billing information publicly. Given the substantial public interest in providing financial support to the victims of this tragedy, however, we felt compelled to disclose our intentions not to bill,” said Medical Center spokesperson Sean Young. Four other hospitals involved in caring for children from the shooting incident also have made public their plans to absorb the related costs.
