CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Council filled two vacant council seats Tuesday night.
Council voted to appoint Tristen Buck as the Third Ward representative as well as Brandi Matsko as the Fourth Ward representative.
However, council also accepted the resignation of Council Member Michael Yankevich, First Ward representative. Council will advertise the now vacant council seat.
Yankevich said his focus is much more needed as the Clearfield Borough fire chief.
Council also approved the hiring of Brett Stewart as its new code enforcement officer.
Rick Mattern requested that South Second and Latimer streets be put on the paving plan because “it’s like driving down a goat path.” He also asked that the Rebecca Park sign be fixed since about a quarter of it is missing.
Todd Kling, street crew foreman, assured him that he, along with Sue Diehl, Clearfield Revitalization Corp. Main Street manager, are working on getting better signage for the parks around the borough, which would be a potential project for students of the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center.
Mattern also inquired about the Amusement Tax and the portion that the Fair & Park Board has yet to pay to the borough.
Solicitor F. Cortez “Chip” Bell III said that they are still meeting with the fair board to find out where the money is and said that the amount of $4,983 would have come from the carnival portion of the fair.
Mattern suggested that it may be in the best interest of the borough residents to encourage the borough to look into having a forensic audit performed.
There were no bids to open for gas and diesel, and so council approved to re-advertise for bids.
Bids were opened for the Tyler Avenue Storm Sewer Replacement Project and were as follows: Dave Roman Excavating: $202,660; North Rock $287,219; Ameron: $323,530; Kukurin Contracting: $318,318; and C&R Directional Boring: $180,820.
Council chose to go with the lowest bid to be under review of Todd Banks, borough engineer.
