DUBOIS — It was last Wednesday when the Clearfield Bison started their season when they hosted the DuBois Beavers on their home court, and that night it was a tough pill to take when Clearfield lost the opening contest of the season. However, due to the tight schedule to start the 2021 season, Clearfield got an opportunity to avenge that loss in just a matter of days.
Monday night, Bison head coach Nate Glunt and his staff loaded up the bus and made the trip to DuBois to face off with the Beavers for a second time within a six-day period.
This time, Clearfield found its groove, and kept the Beavers in check all night long, including holding them to single-point totals in two quarters, finishing with a 54-39 victory, and extending their win streak to four consecutive games.
Clearfield opened the game by holding onto a 13-11 lead after the first eight minutes, but the second quarter saw neither team have a high-scoring output. Combined, the two squads only put up 15 points in the quarter, but it was DuBois that headed to the locker room with a narrow one-point margin, 20-19. After the third quarter, the Bison managed to reel in the Beavers, tying it at 33 points each heading into the final deciding quarter.
In those eight minutes, the Bison were aggressive, and exploded in scoring. Defensively, they were able to hold the Beavers to just two successful shots from the floor, and one single free throw. Meanwhile, of the 10 players on the Bison roster, six of them were able to put the ball in the net, scoring 21 points to cruise to the victory.
Karson Rumsky finished the night with a game-high 18 points plus six rebounds, while Cole Miller added another 17 points and four boards.
For DuBois, Lennon Lindholm led their scoring with 16 points, thanks to four shots from beyond the arc.
Clearfield (4-1) still has no time to rest as they are back on the hardwood on Tuesday. They will return to Mountain League play against the Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties, the same team they beat on Saturday afternoon. This time, it will be played at the Bison Gymnasium, with the varsity tip-off slated for approximately 7:30 p.m.
