CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man is facing felony and misdemeanor drug charges for allegedly selling methamphetamine to a confidential informant.
Michael E. McFarland, 26, has been charged by the Pennsylvania State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, with two counts each of felony manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, conspiracy and criminal use of communication facility.
He’s also been charged with two misdemeanor counts each of intentional possession of a controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
McFarland waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court at the Clearfield County Jail. His bail is set at $50,000 monetary.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on April 29, a CI was instructed to purchase five grams of methamphetamine for $350 from McFarland at his Palmer Street residence in Lawrence Township.
The deal was pre-arranged and McFarland came outside to meet the CI. Because he only had 4.5 grams, and not 5 grams, he allegedly sold it to the CI for $320.
On July 31, a CI was instructed to purchase a “ball,” which is slang for an “eight ball,” or 3.5 grams of meth, from McFarland for $200 at the “slopes” in Chester Hill Borough, which he/she did.
A trooper tested the drug evidence, which showed positive for the presence of meth. The evidence was sent to the state police crime laboratory for further analysis, according to the affidavit.
On Aug. 5, state police located McFarland at a Chester Hill address, he was taken into custody on numerous warrants and lodged in county jail.
State police obtained consent to search and in the bedroom that McFarland was found in, there was a bag of suspected meth, his wallet with driver’s license, cell phone and a “loaded” syringe.
Inside McFarland’s backpack, state police found packaging materials, a scale and glass smoking devices. The meth and an unknown pill were also sent for further testing.
