CURWENSVILLE – On Wednesday the eighth-grade students at the Curwensville Area High School had the chance to participate in the Exploring Program.
It’s a program designed to educate and show the students that there are job opportunities in Clearfield after graduating from high school.
This was the first of several meetings that will be held at the Curwensville High School for the students to explore career opportunities.
Area businesses combined with the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce to raise funds for the Exploring Program.  Invitations were sent out to businesses and within just a couple weeks the chamber was able to raise enough money to begin the program.
This program was developed and made possible by the Boy Scouts of America.  It is the chamber’s goal to provide insight to these students also by helping them fulfill an education requirement.
The students also have the opportunity to meet with business owners and community leaders to gain real-world experiences in a variety of different career fields.
This program not only provides insight for the students, but is also very beneficial to local business owners.  The goal is to one day grow the work force in the area.
This first Explore meeting involved Valerie Dixon from the Lock Haven University Clearfield Campus and Holly Ryan and Jessica McKendrick from the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center.
The speakers gave information on post-secondary education, vocational and technical trades, how college credits can be earned and also dual enrollment programs.
Students and parents were both invited to visit both institutions for a tour and to learn more information about attending as a student.
