WEEDVILLE – Plans have been finalized for the fifth annual Bennetts Valley Family Fishing Day.
“What started out five years ago as an idea for youngsters and their families to do something fun together on Memorial Day weekend has turned into an annual event,” said event coordinator Donald Chiappelli.
Last year’s event drew a crowd of more than 400 people. The family event will be held Sunday, May 27 at the Bennetts Valley Senior Center, located on Plum Street in Weedville.
The Valley American Legion opening ceremony will start at 11:30 a.m.
Fishing will begin at 12 p.m. in the Kersey Run stream located behind the center. May 27 is also PFBC Fish for Free Day (no license required).
Approximately 2,000 trout will be stocked, including prize fish. Prize-tag fishing will end at 3 p.m. Those who are fishing must observe all Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission regulations.
Entertainment will start at 12:30 p.m., featuring Gabby Fye and Jacob Mosier, and will continue from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. with the Moore Brothers Band.
There will also be raffles and free drawings throughout the day. Bubbles the Clown will roam the crowd. There will be activities for children, including face painting by Emma Gavazzi.
Food concessions will be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. and include hot dogs, hot sausage, chicken BBQ, desserts, pulled pork, smoked brisket sandwiches, chicken nuggets, nachos and cheese, fresh cut fries, funnel cakes and slushes.
Attendees should bring a lawn chair with them to the event. For more information, call the senior center at 814-787-7888.
The event is sponsored by the Bennetts Valley Senior Center, Valley American Legion Post 978, Seneca Resources Corp., Sinnemahoning Sportsmen’s Club, Bennetts Valley Lions and EQT.
