DUBOIS – A DuBois woman charged with inappropriately touching a 7-year-old boy is now facing charges for touching a three-year-old girl.

Kelda Jessie Smith, 30, was charged by DuBois City police with a felony count of corruption of minors, a felony count of aggravated indecent assault and misdemeanor counts of indecent assault person less than 13 years of age and endangering the welfare of children in connection with an incident in February.

She was previously charged with similar crimes for an incident in November.

According to the affidavit of probable cause in the new case, the first investigation led police to a second victim, a three-year-old girl.

When Smith was questioned about the girl, she denied any sexual contact at first, but then allegedly admitted to touching the girl’s private area “as a joke.” She told the officer that as she was touching her, she told the victim “this is what I want to do to you when you turn 18 years old.”

During an interview at the Child Advocacy Center, the victim revealed that Smith “hurt” her. When asked where Smith hurt her, the girl pointed to her private area on a drawing.

According to the criminal complaint in the original case, the boy reported to a care provider that Smith had come into sexual contact with the child while she was babysitting him.

Smith reportedly approached the victim while he was getting dressed in formal clothes and only in his underwear.

He told an investigator that Smith inappropriately touched him, and then he ran from the room.

During an interview with police, Smith allegedly admitted to touching the boy’s private area Nov. 12. She claimed she did it as a joke.

Smith remains incarcerated at the county jail on $15,000, bail from the first case. In March she waived her right to a preliminary hearing on those charges.

The most recent case is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 25 during centralized court at District Judge Patrick Ford’s office in DuBois.
