CLEARFIELD – An East Eighth Street resident appealed to the Clearfield Borough Council for help with a parking situation.
At Thursday’s meeting borough resident Patti Baker asked for help regarding parking problems on an alley running alongside her property.
Baker said one of the residents has as many as eight vehicles parked at their house, some on private property and some on the alley.
Baker said when the vehicles are parked in the alley, they are parking too far away from the edge. She said this caused the plow truck drivers to have to swerve around the parked vehicles and push the snow up against her house. When the snow melts, Baker said she has been getting water coming into her house.
Baker said she has called the police and sent photos to the officers as well as to the borough operations manager, but the problem continues.
Police Chief Vince McGinnis said he has had an officer patrolling the area, but they have been unable to catch the individuals blocking or causing problems in the alley.
Solicitor F. Cortez Bell III said when the weather improves, the borough can find the actual boundaries of the alley by looking at the property deeds.
He said the borough can clearly mark where the alley ends and Baker’s property begins and if the vehicles are parked over the alley, they can be issued a citation.
However, Bell said nothing can be done until enough of the snow melts to allow the borough to locate the property pins.
Also at the meeting, McGinnis reported that the department responded to 551 incidents for the month of December, bringing the total incidents for the year to 7,173, a decrease from 7,315 in 2016. The department also made 252 criminal arrests for a year, a decrease from 314 from 2016
The department made 26 criminal arrests for the month, an increase from 17 in December 2016; and made 719 traffic arrests for the year, which is also a decrease from 1,109 for 2016.
In other business, the council voted to approve:
- Purchasing a Rhino Tab computer system for one of the patrol vehicles for $6,027, plus installation to be paid for with donated funds.
- Awarding the contract for gasoline and diesel bids to J.J. Powell at a variable rate.
- Allowing the street crew to move forward on replacing electric services at the borough garage.
- Accepting the resignation of Michael Gill from the Zoning Hearing Board and appointing Christopher Stott to the Zoning Hearing Board.
- Sending Police Officer Daniel Podliski to pistol/shotgun training March 19-23 at a cost of $695 plus room and board.
- Paying the bills list as presented.
