Betty I. McGonigal, 94, of RD Tyrone and formerly of Philipsburg, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at Olivia Village, P.C.H., RD Tyrone, Pa.
She was born Aug. 29, 1921, in (Point Lookout), Philipsburg, Pa., a daughter of the late William Sanderson and Isabel (Blake) Wilson.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ, RD Philipsburg. She was a 1939 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.
She was married May 8, 1940 in South Philipsburg to Clyde W. McGonigal, who preceded her in death on June 4, 1997.
She had been employed as a sales associate with the former W. T. Grant Store, Philipsburg, for more than 40 years until her retirement. She had also served on the former South Philipsburg Borough Board of Elections.
She was also an active volunteer during her life in Philipsburg. She had served as a volunteer with a number of organizations, including the Philipsburg Towers and RSVP of Centre County, and she had served as a cafeteria aide for 20 years in the former Philipsburg State General Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five sisters, Doris Salzman, Wilmina Ropchock, Evelyn Sharpless, Eleanor DeSanctis and Alice Joan Blazosky; and two brothers, James Edward Wilson and Roy D. Wilson.
She is survived by one sister, Jean W. Zaccardo of St. Petersburg, Fla., and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with Pastor Ryan D. Parish officiating.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Philipsburg Cemetery, Philipsburg.
