Luella J. Pearce, 93, of Curwensville, passed away Wednesday morning June 24, 2015 surrounded by her family.
Born July 4, 1921 in Burnside, PA she was the daughter of Louis and Ellen (Anderson) Johnson Sr. She attended school in Buffalo NY and was Salutatorian of 1939 Class of Mahaffey H.S., had driven a bakery truck in Buffalo NY, had worked in the parachute factory in Curwensville during World War II, and had been a Department Manager for Leitzinger’s Dept. Store in Clearfield prior to her retirement. She was a Published Author of short stories in the Readers Digest and The Grit and also was a former member of the Jordan Township Board of Elections.
She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Curwensville, where she had been the oldest living member of the church, was a past Sunday School Superintendent, had been a financial secretary, sang in the Grace Church Choir as well as the Joint Lutheran Choir, and was a member of the church’s Ladies Aid Society.
On August 18, 1945 in Leedsdale, PA she wed Walter G. Pearce who preceded her in death on October 5, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Elmer and sisters Hulda, Marie and Dorothy.
Surviving are 4 daughters: Patricia L. Quick and her husband James Sr. of Curwensville, Madelyn P. Smay and her husband Joseph Sr. of Clearfield, Susan P. Williams and her husband Harry Sr. and Arlene P. Morgillo and her husband Mickey both of Curwensville and 8 grandchildren Jamie Quick and wife Michele, Jennifer Beittel and husband Eric, Joseph Smay Jr. and wife Julie, Ellen Snyder and husband Tom, Windy Alonso and husband Matt, Chip Williams and companion Leann Jenkins, James Morgillo, and Tonya Morgillo.
Also surviving are 14 great grandchildren. Nate and Emma Quick, Nathaniel, Hadley, and Molly Beittel, Michaela and Ricky Magnuson, Janessa Snyder, Falyn, Chloe, and Graycen Williams, Trevor, Pearce, and Natalie Alonso, a brother Louis Johnson Jr. and his wife Lois of Mahaffey, and a sister Madelyn Stiffler and her husband James of Indiana, PA.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Pearce will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Curwensville on Saturday June 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Richard Steuernagle officiating. Interment will follow in the Fruit Hill Cemetery New Millport, PA.
Friends will be received at The Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Friday June 26, 2015 from 3-8 PM.
