Libraries Providing Resources to Help Individuals Meet ACA Deadline
CLEARFIELD – Do you want to sign up for health insurance before the March 31 deadline but need more information or have questions?
With the help of PA Forward’s Health Literacy Planning Team, libraries have been gathering information to help you understand the health care process and how it relates to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). If you don’t have access to a computer at home, the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library can help with that, too.
Man Pleads Guilty to Selling Prescription Medications
CLEARFIELD – A DuBois man pleaded guilty to selling prescription medications during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.
James E. Burnside, 49, 14 N. Church St., DuBois, pleaded guilty to criminal use of communication facility and two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-hydrocodone. He was sentenced to six months to two years less one day in jail and three years consecutive probation. He was fined $450 plus costs. Burnside must undergo a drug/alcohol assessment and DNA testing.
Woman Accused of Stealing Rent Monies Appears in Court
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield woman accused of stealing rent money from residents at the Dimeling Senior Center recently appeared before Judge Paul E. Cherry in Clearfield County Court.
Cara Marie Artiola, 32, 315 Reighard St., Clearfield is charged with theft by unlawful taking, theft by failure to make required disposition of funds, receiving stolen property and forgery. She had signed a plea agreement in November but when she appeared for sentencing, she wanted to have an attorney. She then withdrew her plea.
Thompson, Bipartisan Group of PA House Members Introduce Bill to Protect CHIP Program
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) and Charlie Dent (PA-15) have announced the introduction of legislation that would preserve the Pennsylvania Children’s Health Insurance Program (PA CHIP), as well as protect similar programs in other states.
CASD Approves Collapsing Professional Positions
CLEARFIELD – On Monday night, the Clearfield school board approved collapsing all professional positions that are represented under the collective bargaining agreement with the Clearfield Education Association at the conclusion of this school year.
Sunealitis Trial Goes to Jury Today
CLEARFIELD – The trial got under way yesterday for a DuBois man accused of producing methamphetamine at his residence. Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman is presiding over the trial.

In DuBois, Police Chief Retires
DUBOIS – On Monday night, the DuBois City Council accepted Police Chief Mike DiLullo’s retirement.
Assistant Police Chief Ron LaRotonda will take over the police department for the second time. Six DuBois City police officers, the police secretary and family members attended the meeting.
Sunealitis Found Guilty in Meth Lab Case
CLEARFIELD – Jurors deliberated for approximately one hour Tuesday before finding a DuBois man guilty of producing methamphetamine at his residence. Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman presided over the trial.
Steven F. Sunealitis, 53, of DuBois was found guilty on all charges, which include deposits, stores or disposes of chemical waste; manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered; and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
Woman Accused of Shooting Nurse to Stand Trial
CLEARFIELD – A woman accused of shooting her nurse during a routine visit on Dec. 6, 2012 had all charges held for court by Magisterial District Judge Jerome Nevling after a preliminary hearing Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Marlene W. Kenjora, 70, of Osceola Mills has been charged with criminal attempt/criminal homicide; aggravated assault; discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure; recklessly endangering another person; and simple assault. She’s currently incarcerated at the CCJ in lieu of $1 million bail.
Treasurer Headed to Trial for Stealing from Memorial Fund
CLEARFIELD – A treasurer accused of stealing more than $10,000 from a memorial fund he helped manage had all charges held for court by Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland after a preliminary hearing Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Frank Charles Stewart, 48, of Ramey has been charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. His bail has been set at $50,000 monetary, which he’s posted.

Bipartisan Farm Bill Advances to Final Stages
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Agricultural Act of 2014, a five-year Farm Bill reauthorization, by a vote of 251-166.
The bill was produced by the House-Senate conference committee that was charged with resolving differences between the House and Senate-passed Farm Bills. U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, PA-5, chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy & Forestry and a member of the conference committee, issued the following statement:
Man Charged with Causing Disturbance, Resisting Police
CLEARFIELD – Charges were filed yesterday against a Schnecksville man for allegedly causing a disturbance at a local establishment and then resisting police, according to the office of Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland.
Charles M Flynn Jr., 52, of Schnecksville has been charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and simple assault. His bail is set at $50,000 monetary, which he posted yesterday.
County Approves Changes to Job Descriptions for Deputy Wardens at CCJ
CLEARFIELD – At this week’s meeting, the Clearfield County Commissioners approved job description changes to the deputy warden positions at the Clearfield County Jail.
Commissioner John A. Sobel, chair, presented the job description changes. It was noted Deputy Warden Greg Collins asked the commissioners to approve the changes to the positions prior to him assuming the position of warden when current Warden Sam Lombardo retires in April.
Commissioners Approve Affordable Housing Trust Funds
CLEARFIELD – At this week’s meeting, the Clearfield County Commissioners approved awarding Affordable Housing Trust Funds.
The county was awarded $65,000, according to County Planner Jodi Brennan. Brennan presented the projects that were selected to receive funding.
Corbett Announces $10 Million Proposal to Expand Quality Early Learning
ENOLA – Gov. Tom Corbett has previewed a 2014-15 budget proposal that will increase funding in the Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts program by $10 million, allowing approximately 1,670 additional Pennsylvania pre-school children to access high-quality early learning.
The additional $10 million would bring total increased investment in Pre-K Counts under the Corbett Administration to $13.6 million, or 16.3 percent.
