CHESTER HILL – Chester Hill Borough, in partnership with Clearfield County, the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission (NCPRPDC) and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), has launched an online survey to gather public comment on potential study recommendations for its Reconnecting Our Communities Mobility Study.
The study was initiated in response to community concerns surrounding the impacts of the recent closure and removal of the Presqueisle Street Bridge.
In addition to losing a connection into Philipsburg, Chester Hill Borough has observed growth in vehicular traffic on its roadways and increased pedestrian safety risk since the bridge’s closure in 2019.
The study will identify recommendations to enhance both vehicular and pedestrian access, mitigate potential conflicts between transportation modes and alleviate the pressure of increased traffic levels on local roadways.
Community residents and travelers are invited to take the online survey, which is available at: https://bit.ly/ChesterHillStudy.
The survey allows participants to share their transportation concerns and offer their feedback on potential improvements in the area of McGuirk and Rowland streets.
“The responses we receive through the online survey will help inform next phases of the study process and allow us to either refine these improvement options or explore others that may not have been considered,” said Pierce Sanute, of borough council.
“This public input is vital in defining a solution that the community is supportive of that will ultimately enhance safety and mobility for all who travel through the Borough.”
The study process is being guided by a steering committee consisting of representatives from the borough, Clearfield County, NCPRPDC and PennDOT.
Additional outreach to local businesses will also occur in the coming weeks, and a public meeting is also planned to receive additional input.
Local officials anticipate having a final study report completed later this summer.
