CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville softball team is on a four-game winning streak with each of those games shortened by the mercy rule. In Tuesday’s 15-0 blanking of Moshannon Valley, Addison Siple collected a no-hitter in four innings in the circle.
Siple gave up four base-on-balls in the contest but left those stranded by striking out eight batters. She was backed by solid, errorless fielding from her defense as well. Only one ball off a Damsel bat left the infield.
The Lady Tide offense was led by Addison Butler, who has proven to be a pitcher’s nightmare of late. Butler slapped out three hits in four at bats, stole a total of six bases and scored four times in the contest. Natalie Wischuck added three hits as well including the last hit of the game to plate the fifteenth run. Siple also added two hits to the cause.
For the second game in as many days, the winning run for Curwensville scored as a result of the one-two punch of Butler and Addison Warren. Butler singled to lead off the game and quickly stole second and third. Warren followed with a triple to right-center for the initial score. Warren then stole home before Siple singled to left. Siple then stole second and scored on a Wischuck hit. An error, a hit batsman and a walk set the score at 4-0 with the bases loaded and no outs. Ava Hainsey earned an RBI on a ground out to third, a dropped third strike throw to first allowed a 6-0 mark, and Butler’s second hit of the inning added another run. Butler scored on an error that allowed Warren to settle at third base, and Warren stole home for a second time to set the score at 9-0 after the first inning.
The bottom of the second inning started with a pinch-hit walk from Giana Lezzer. Lezzer stole second and moved to third on Hainsey’s single to right. After the second out, Butler reached on an error to plate a run and put runners on the corners. Butler surprised no one by stealing second and an error off the bat of Warren scored two for a 12-0 lead.
The game ended in the fourth with no out being recorded as Butler picked up her third single, Warren walked, and both scored on a Siple triple. One pitch later, Wischuck singled past the shortstop to set the final at 15-0.
Curwensville (12-3) will host West Branch (11-1) on Thursday at Coach Andy Evanko Stadium. The first pitch is set to be let go at 4:30.
