EBENSBURG — The Clearfield Lady Bison started and finished off their week with wins, sandwiched around two road losses, to raise their record to 3-7 at the halfway point of the season when they defeated the Bishop Carroll Lady Huskies (3-9) on Friday afternoon.
Meg Wisor, the hard luck 3-0 losing pitcher at Forest Hills on Wednesday, pitched her second consecutive complete game to notch her first career varsity win in the circle for the Lady Bison.
Four Lady Bison had multi-hit games, led by Eve Siegel’s three hits and two hits each by Ruby Singleton, Aevril Hayward, and Haley Billotte.
The visitors came out of the gate in a hurry, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning.
Singleton walked on four pitches to start the game and advanced to second and third on wild pitches. Madi McBride picked up a full count walk to put two runners on and promptly stole second. Hayward became the third walk to start the game, which loaded the bases with none out for clean-up hitter Siegel. She came through with a single through the hole between short and third to plate the first two runs of the game. Sam Campolong then walked to reload the bases. Alexus Green then lined one off of starting pitcher Hannah Strittmatter’s ankle to score Hayward making the score 3-0, while Siegel was forced at third as the ball ricocheted within the infield. After a pitching change due to injury, Anna Twigg greeted reliever Mary Golden with a double down the left field line to make it 5-0 Lady Bisons. After the second out was recorded Haley Billotte singled to center and advanced to second on the throw to the plate that chased courtesy runner Mia Helsel back to third. The final run scored when Singleton beat out an infield single, making it 6-0 after just one half inning of play.
The home squad answered back with one swing of the bat when Adelyn Myers hit a solo homerun over the left field fence to make it 6-1.
That was as close as the Lady Husky’s would get as the Lady Bison added single runs in the second and fourth innings and then put the game away with a 4-spot in the top of the fifth.
In addition to the homerun, Wisor only gave up two more hits the rest of the way, along with no walks and 11 strikeouts.
Clearfield will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Bald Eagle Area (9-2)
