SPOKANE, WA — McKenzie Astorino competed in the 15-year-old and under 33 kg division at the United States Women’s Wrestling National Championships in Spokane, Washington on April 12-14.
She won three of her five matches over the weekend and is the U.S. Women’s National Runner-Up.
In her first round matchup, Astorino defeated Ella Pechnyo from Colorado by technical fall 16-6. The second round matchup was won by fall in 1:11 over Ariel Humphreys of Missouri. In the third round matchup, McKenzie won by technical fall over Kassidy Davis of Washington by the score of 10-0.
The Women’s National Tournament format is the same as the US Olympic Trials. Astorino then had a best-of-three series final matchup versus Lanaia Selig of Washington. McKenzie lost by fall in 1:03 and by decision 8-4.
By placing second, Astorino secured the alternate spot on the 2024 U15 United States Pan-American Championship team.
Over the weekend, she was selected to represent the 14 and under Pennsylvania National Dual Team. She will travel to Lock Haven University for training camp June 16-19 and then to the national competition in Westfield, Indiana June 19-22. Team Pennsylvania is currently the 5-time reining National Champions and will compete against the nation’s best at a chance for a 6th national title.
