Researchers, students and community members encouraged to attend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Social Science Research Institute’s Consortium on Substance Use and Addiction will host its fifth annual conference, in-person and via Zoom on Monday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Barron Innovation Hub.

The all-day event is free, but all in-person and virtual attendees must register in advance. Lunch will be provided to in-person attendees.

The conference will have several panels, a poster session, and a series of research talks from researchers, students, and community members. Attendees interested in participating in the poster session or research talks should visit CSUA’s website.

This year’s conference keynote speaker will be R. Lorraine Collins, distinguished professor and director of the Center for Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research at the University at Buffalo.

Paul Griffin, CSUA’s interim executive director and professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering, encouraged researchers, students and community members to attend this free and informative event.

“This year’s conference is an opportunity to join a discussion focused on cannabis trends and policy implications as well as strategies to support friends and families with addiction,” Griffin said. “Anyone who shares our vision for a brighter world, and who wants to work to solve the complex problems of substance use and addiction is welcome.”

Housed in the?Social Science Research Institute, the Consortium on Substance Use and Addiction draws on the expertise of researchers, educators, and practitioners from across Penn State to develop and implement effective programs, policies and practices aimed at preventing and treating addiction and its spillover effects on children, families, and communities.
