CURWENSVILLE — After having their best night on the season, the Lady Tide of Curwensville suddenly found themselves against one of their biggest foes, the Lady Warriors from West Branch. The visitors were coming in following a night where Jenna Mertz officially became the all-time leading scorer for West Branch, ready for a battle inside Patton Hall.
Mertz would be the high-scorer on the night as the Lady Tide were outmatched, falling in a 49-18 rout.
Curwensville’s night was slow to start, offensively and defensively, as they were held to only seven points in the entire first half. By contrast, West Branch would put up 17 points in the opening stanza. They would go into halftime holding a 22-7 advantage.
The third quarter was a tight battle between the two squads, with the Warriors barely getting the better of Curwensville, 11-10. However, the Lady Tide would be held to a single point in the final quarter as West Branch pushed the game to the running clock with a 16-point effort.
Mertz would lead all scoring with 17 points on the night, the lone player in double figures. Curwensville was led by Natalie Wischuck with seven points.
Sitting at 0-17, Curwensville will be on the road on Monday night for what will be the third meeting this season against the Lady Damsels of Moshannon Valley. Tip off will be at 6:15 p.m.
