CLEARFIELD – Mamajora J. Spingola, 38, of Clearfield is facing charges for keeping a young child inside an apartment following a damaging fire, Clearfield Regional police say.
According to a department-issued news release, police on Jan. 11 were called to assist fire personnel in the 1400-block of Daisy Street where there had been an unreported structure fire a day earlier.
“The interior of the apartment sustained substantial fire damage but was extinguished by the offender,” the release states. “[She] never reported the incident to emergency services or her landlord.
“And, she kept her two-year-old child inside the apartment for the extent of the night.”
It indicates that other tenants detected the smell of smoke the following day (Jan. 11), prompting response by the property maintenance worker who reportedly discovered the damage.
Police say Spingola has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person and risking catastrophe through the Clearfield magistrate’s office.
