TYRONE — The struggles for the Clearfield Bison to start the year have not been from a lack of effort by any stretch. Every game they come out and battle, never quitting. Despite their winless record, the team refuses to quit and puts forth every ounce of drive they can for 32 minutes. Monday night, that effort was still there as the Bison hit the hardwood on the road for a Laurel Highlands showdown with Tyrone.
Still, the Golden Eagles showed why they were a one-loss team as they would lead start to finish, handing Clearfield a 78-49 loss to drop the Bison’s record to 0-6.
Tyrone came out hard in the opening quarter, limiting production and opportunities on defense, while taking advantage on the opposite end of the court. The three-possession lead after the first eight minutes only grew in the second quarter as the home squad nearly doubled-up the point production of Clearfield. Heading into halftime, Clearfield stared at a 43-24 gap, still wanting to battle and forge a rally.
That rally fell short as the Bison never could pull within striking distance in the second half, as Tyrone began pouring it on when the opportunity knocked. Clearfield also never had a chance at free points, as they would only head to the foul line two times the entire game. Despite Tyrone only being 4-for-10 at the charity stripe, the 31 shots that went in the bucket for the Golden Eagles proved to be too much to overcome.
The home squad had four players in double figures as Eli Woomer led the team with 17 points. Andrew Escala added in 16, while Sam Crilly added 13 and Ashton Walk bucketed 12. For Clearfield, Braison Patrick led all scoring with 18 points on the night. Parker Collins backed him up with 12.
Clearfield will get one more game in before Christmas as they will play host to another team that has a bit of gold in their name, as in the Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers. Tip off will be on Thursday in the Bison Gymnasium at 6 p.m. for junior varsity. The main event will tip at approximately 7:30 p.m.
