The Clearfield Area School Board held their reorganization meeting Monday night, welcoming two new members and swearing in three returning board members.
Paul Sayers and Eric Cummings were sworn in as new members, filling seats previously held by Phil Carr and Tim Morgan.
Along with returning board members Sue Mikesell, Gail Ralston, and Jennifer Evans, they were given the oath of office by temporary president Shawna Rothrock.
Both current president Greg Clarke and Ralston were nominated for president of the board with Clarke receiving the majority of votes and Rothrock was then elected as vice president.
The schedule of meetings was also approved with the board holding workshop meetings the third Monday of each month and the regular meetings the fourth Monday, with two exceptions.
There will be a combined meeting May 20 and in July, the annual Fireman’s Parade will be held the third Monday, so the meetings will be held July 22 and 29.
All meetings are at 6 p.m. at the junior/senior high school library.
Beard Legal Group was retained as the school solicitor and Kayla Caragein as board secretary.
Clarke will continue to be the representative for the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center board with Sayers as the alternate, and Rothrock will be the representative for the Center Intermediate Unit No. 10 board.
The board also approved the Act 1 Resolution for 2024-2025 tax index.
The index, passed under a Special Session of the state legislature in 2006, known as the Taxpayer Relief Act, requires districts to limit tax increases “to the level set by an inflation index unless the tax increase is approved by voters in a referendum or the school district obtains for the Department of Education or a court of common pleas certain referendum exceptions.”
The adjusted index for Clearfield for the 2024-2025 fiscal year is 7.4 percent and the district has made the decision to not raise the rate of any tax for the district by more than it’s index.
Finally, the board approved a short list of personnel items, the Girls’ Basketball Booster Group and Expulsion Agreement No. 2324002.
The next meeting will be held Jan. 15, 2024.
