The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that it completed a joint sealing project on Interstate 99 between Port Matilda and Grays Woods on Wednesday, over a month ahead of schedule.
PennDOT anticipated this project, which extended the life of more than seven miles of concrete roadway in Huston and Worth townships in Centre County, to stretch into late November.
“Pavement preservation projects like this one enhance safety for motorists and, when completed on a cycle, can extend the life of a roadway by decades,” said District 2 Executive Tom Prestash.
“We always strive to strike a balance between providing a safe and efficient highway system and minimizing traffic impacts.
In this case, the work was impacting the morning commute to the largest metropolitan area in our district, so we’re very pleased to deliver this project ahead of schedule and thereby maintain that balance.”
Completing the work early minimizes disruptions to travelers and complements Governor Shapiro’s commitment to transforming Pennsylvania government to more effectively serve Pennsylvanians by cutting through red tape and working as safely and efficiently as possible.
It is that same spirit that was demonstrated in the effort to successfully open I-95 in just 12 days, and PennDOT’s team of expert engineers and work crews continue to work efficiently for people across Pennsylvania.
Swank Construction Company of New Kensington, Pa., was the contractor for this $969,000 job.
