CLEARFIELD – Lawrence Township Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner addressed Clearfield Borough Council on Thursday evening to discuss the relaunch of Clearfield County Crime Stoppers.

Calls to the Crime Stoppers line utilizes a no-caller ID line and does not record conversations. The information is then forwarded to the proper law enforcement agency.

Residents can also report suspicious activity through the District Attorney’s page on Clearfield County’s Web site as well and still remain anonymous.

The only time Crime Stoppers would ask for a resident’s information is when a reward could be collected. Signs will be going up soon in the township as well as the borough to advertise for Crime Stoppers.

At last week’s borough committee meeting, there was a discussion about a provision change to the borough by-laws.

The provision was with regards to if a council member missed three meetings without a good reason, then they could be removed from council.

Solicitor F. Cortez “Chip” Bell III informed council that this provision was outdated and legally could not be carried out.

The governor of the state would actually be permitted to remove a council member from office.

The provision was advertised and read and will be read again at the next council meeting so that it can be officially changed.

Street material bids were opened and the following companies won bids: HRI, Bucktail Excavators, Glenn O. Hawbaker, Highway LLC and Center Concrete for concrete, asphalt, limestone and anti-skid.

The bids were approved pending further review from the Street Department.

Residents of the borough and Lawrence Township are reminded that Trick-or-Treat will be Tuesday, Oct. 31,  from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Please leave your front porch light on if you would like to receive Trick-or-Treaters.

The borough also approved to close a portion of Leavy Street for Clearfield American Legion Post 6’s Veterans Day service from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
