PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Authorities have released details of a shooting that occurred in Punxsutawney Borough on Monday evening.

According to a press release issued by the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 400 Block of Woodland Avenue in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, to assist two people that were just involved in a shooting around 8:59 p.m. on Monday, October 16.

Police say early reports indicate that a 22-year-old male suspect gained entry into the residence while “seeking out” a 27-year-old male victim.

The suspect was reported to have had a failed relationship with a female who resided at the residence. An altercation occurred near an upstairs bathroom of the residence between the suspect and victim.

The suspect allegedly drew his firearm and fired at the victim, striking him in the abdomen and right leg.

The victim made his way to the bedroom and retrieved his firearm. It was reported the victim had exchanged gunfire with the suspect from the bedroom.

Officers arrived on scene within three minutes of being dispatched. A perimeter was set and entry was made into the residence.

The victim was located in the upstairs bedroom with wounds to his right leg and abdomen, with a female witness applying pressure on the wounds.

The victim was treated at the scene and transported to Penn Highland Dubois Hospital by Jefferson County EMS.

The suspect fled the residence prior to police arrival. He was transported to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital by a family member to be treated for gunshot wounds.

This investigation is ongoing.

The suspect’s name was not released.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The name of the suspect will be released upon the completion of court document filings. An updated article will be posted at this time.
