PIKE TOWNSHIP – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that paving along Route 879 between Bloomington Avenue in Curwensville Borough and Greenville Pike in Pike Township got underway Tuesday.

This paving is part of a larger project that will improve ride quality and extend the life of over 37 miles of roadway in Cameron, Clearfield and Elk counties.

Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control while paving operations are ongoing. PennDOT urges drivers to build extra time into their travel schedules, exercise caution, and obey posted speed limits in this and all work zones.

Those familiar with the area may wish to consider alternate routes. PennDOT anticipates paving in this area to take about two weeks.

Glenn O. Hawbaker is the contractor on this $4.2 million project. All work is weather dependent.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following local alerts on X.
