DUBOIS – DuBois City police are performing targeted drug enforcement.
At Monday night’s council meeting, Chief Blaine Clark reported the department will be entering phase two of its enforcement.
Phase two will focus on community engagement and tips. While officers currently accept tips via phone and/or walk-ins, there will also be two new areas of focus.
Officers will dedicate more time to interactions with residents while they’re out and about in the community.
As these opportunities arise, they will hand out business cards with a contact e-mail for drug-related tips: drugtips@dubois.gov.
Tips and information sent to this e-mail will be received by the DuBois Drug Enforcement Team.
Council also voted to recognize Aug. 31 as International Overdose Awareness Day.
Also, on Monday night, it was reported the city will receive a Community Development Block Grant allocation totaling $308,699 in 2023.
The final application is due to the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development by Oct 27.
Council will hold a public hearing before its final application, as required, to discuss usage of its funds. The program requires funds benefit low- to moderate-income families.
As a whole, city residents are considered too “well-off” to permit funds be used to benefit the city in general. Only 18 percent of the allocation can be set aside for administration.
Council also voted to apply for a multimodal grant through the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Financing Authority for the Downtown Loop Trailhead.
The city will begin looking at revamping the former S&T Bank property near the DuBois City Municipal Building.
Once complete, the property, will create a new parking lot with 70 spaces.
