DUBOIS – Mural and public art projects are underway in downtown DuBois, according to members of the collaborative of the Winkler Gallery and Art Education Center (WGAEC), DuBois Area Council on the Arts (DACOTA) and Downtown DuBois Inc.
The group recently held a Dine-In Day fundraiser at Luigi’s to launch the program and highlight the first large-scale piece, which will be designed and created by Perry Winkler, founder of the Winkler Gallery, assisted by artist Harlan Begley.
This mural will be located on the side of Planet Bike on Brady St. The public, community associations and corporations are welcome to come see the first large mural preliminary study on display at the WGAEC.
The mural, when completed, will take on a realistic portrayal of the historic carousel animals found in the gallery and all subject matter.
You may view the mural preliminary study during WGAEC open hours: Wednesday and Thursday, 12 p.m. until 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., or by appointment 814-375-5834.
The overall collaborative program will encompass a variety of art projects throughout the downtown, both large and small.
Due to the variety, scope and cost of projects being considered, members of the group will be raising funds separately.
According to Eddie Tate, chairman of the Downtown DuBois Inc. Beautification Committee, “We’re excited about these mural projects and the positive attention this will bring to our downtown.
“We have a vibrant art community, so here’s a chance to showcase the artists and the many volunteers who want to help!”
