CLEARFIELD – A contraband investigation has been launched by Clearfield Regional police following multiple inmate overdoses at the Clearfield County Jail.
According to a department-issued news release, police were dispatched to the jail just before 3 p.m. July 6 for two female inmates in cardiac arrest.
Police say Narcan was administered by jail staff, as both inmates had overdosed on unknown drugs.
Both were subsequently transported to Penn Highlands Hospital for further treatment and later returned to jail.
Police were dispatched to the jail again at 3:11 a.m. July 8, as another female inmate was reportedly in cardiac arrest.
Upon arrival on-scene, officers assisted with life-saving efforts; however, the inmate was declared deceased by the coroner.
Yesterday county officials identified the deceased inmate as Kaitlyn R. Evans, 31, of Morrisdale. She was incarcerated May 24, 2023.
Her charges included felony delivery of a controlled substance (two counts), as well as misdemeanor intentional possession of controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
