BELLWOOD – The Lady Tide (4-10) made the trip to Bellwood to take on the Lady Devils (14-2) Monday night in Inter County Conference action. Bellwood-Antis picked up the victory and a season sweep of Curwensville by a final score of 60-22.
Curwensville had a much better start to Monday’s contest than they did in their previous matchup with the Lady Devils as their defensive effort made a noticeable difference in the outcome of this game. Having lost 77-20 earlier in the season, including giving up 37 points in the first quarter, being down just 18-6 in the opening quarter shows how far the Lady Tide have come the last few weeks.
The second quarter was also close as Bellwood-Antis would outscore Curwensville 15-11 to take a 33-17 lead into the break. In the first-half, senior Alyssa Bakaysa scored all of her team-high eight points to try to help Curwensville keep pace with the Lady Devils.
For Bellwood-Antis, senior Jaidyn McCracken led the visiting offense with 14 of her game-high 22 points coming in the opening half of play.
The second-half was a much different story as Curwensville struggled to put the ball in the basket, something that allowed Bellwood-Antis to extend their lead as the visitors ended the game on a 27-5 run in the second-half to secure the victory, 60-22.
A third period that featured no points for the Lady Tide made a significant difference as Curwensville was not able to get any momentum on the offensive end to end the game.
Aside from McCracken for Bellwood-Antis, the team featured two additional scorers who reached double-figures as Chelsean McCaulsky added 15 and Lydia Worthing added 12. Three more Lady Devils found their way into the scoring column Monday as Aly Partner added seven, Leigha Clapper added three, and Chloe Hammond added one.
Following Bakaysa’s eight tallies, Karleigh Freyer added four, Skylar Pentz and Kyra Henry each added three, and Austyn Guiher and Brooklyn Price each chipped in two points.
The Lady Tide will be back on the road for the third straight time on Thursday, February 3 as they take on Juniata Valley for the second-time this season. Curwensville will look to even the season series between the two programs as the Lady Hornets defeated them on January 7 by a final score of 44-10.
Junior-varsity will kick-off the action Thursday at 6:00 p.m. while the varsity game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
