CURWENSVILLE- While the Lady Tide had a week layoff between games, they showed little signs of rust as they scored early and often in both games of the Thursday afternoon doubleheader. Curwensville would defeat Sheffield 23-0 in game one in three innings and 25-1 in game two in three innings.
GAME ONE
In game one, an 18 run first inning helped set the tone for how the games were going to go between the two ball clubs. The Lady Tide collected twelve total hits in the game and were able to take advantage of 17 walks by the Lady Wolverines to cruise to victory. The Lady Tide were able to bring 24 hitters to the plate in the first inning alone and managed to swipe nine bases for the game.
The team also used strong starting pitching from Joslynne Freyer who did not surrender a hit in three innings pitched while striking out six. The win helped Freyer improve 3-1 on the season, but she would then add another win to her season total in the second game and now sits at 4-1 overall in the circle.
The Curwensville offense was led by two hitter Logan Sheeder who three-for-four with five RBI’s and two runs scored. Freyer also collected three hits of her own while drawing a walk, knocking in three, and scoring two more runs of her own. The Lady Tide also had multi-hit efforts from Abby Pentz and Mackeznie Wall who totaled four hits, six runs, five RBI’s, and four walks for the game.
Teagan Harzinski and Maddie Butler each contributed one hit for Curwensville and combined for five runs, four walks, and an RBI in the contest.
Shyanne Rudy was able to collected two RBI’s and score a run of her own while also picking up a walk. Breanna Babcock was able to show a good eye at the plate for Curwensville and collected three walks for the ball game while adding three runs and two RBI’s.
Rylee Wiggins drew two walks of her own in the game and contributed two RBI’s and two runs scored. Kaylie Shaw and Nora Young were also able to contribute on the offensive for the Lady Tide with each drawing a walk and scoring a run after they entered the game.

GAME TWO
The second game of the doubleheader featured the Lady Tide as the visiting team despite hosting the doubleheader. Similar to the first game, Curwensville wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as they would use 17 first inning runs to propel to a 25-1 win.
The Lady Tide offense would combine for 17 hits and draw 12 walks in this one while stealing 15 bases in the game. It was an offensive explosion once again for Curwensville who is now averaging 14.4 runs per game on the season through 5 games.
The ball club was able to collect multiple hit games from four players as Pentz, Sheeder, Freyer, and Rudy each swung a hot bat in the game. Pentz was three-for-four with four RBI’s and three runs scored. Sheeder was four-for-four with four RBI’s and three runs score. Freyer collected three hits in four at-bats with four runs scored and an RBI. Rudy was two-for-three with two RBI’s and a run scored.
Other hits in the ball game came off the bats of Wall, Harzinski, Wiggins, Taylor Simcox, and Kaylie Shaw. Breanna Babcock was able to draw a walk and record and RBI while Mackenzie Hullihan also record an RBI as a pinch hitter as well.
The trio of Freyer, Sheeder, and Pentz combined for the no-hitter for Curwensville and totaled six strikeouts for the game.
The Golden Tide were able to hold the Lady Wolverines hitless once again, but Sheffield was able to score their lone run of the afternoon in the first inning when Anna McCracken reached on an error and was eventually was able to advance home on three passed balls by Curwensville.
The team will be in action again tomorrow, April 16, as they square off with Moshannon Valley in a make up game originally scheduled for Friday, April 9. The game will be held in Houtzdale with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
