CLEARFIELD – Work continues to secure the future of baseball and softball in the Clearfield area.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Larry Putt, president of the Lawrence Township Recreational Park Board, asked the Lawrence Township Supervisors if there was a way to assist a newly-formed baseball/softball committee.
Putt said the committee will be facing a lot of “start-up” costs, as they will need to adopt conflict of interest policies, draft and adopt bylaws, elect officers and other legal matters.
Putt said there was about $10,000 left in the Rec Park budget. He asked if it could be possible for the Rec Park Board to use that money for the baseball/softball committee.
Solicitor James Naddeo said the supervisors could vote to release the money to the Rec Park Board, and the board could release the money to the committee.
According to previous GANT News articles, the baseball/softball committee was formed in September to address concerns about a new facility for batting cages.
The supervisors have reached an agreement to sell the building in Hyde, where the batting cages are set up. The committee is looking to find or build a new building for the cages.
The cages are used not only by residents of the township, but also from all over Clearfield County.
A group of volunteers has agreed to serve on the committee to help address the problem.
