CLEARFIELD – On Wednesday morning, Democratic candidate Dave Glass claimed the third and final seat on Clearfield County’s board of commissioners.
The commissioner candidates included incumbents John A. Sobel and Tony Scotto, Republican running mates. They were joined on the ballot by Glass and Lisa Kovalick, Democrat.
Sobel (9,485 votes) and Scotto (9,040 votes) were both re-elected to the commissioners’ office Tuesday night. Sobel was first elected in 2008 and Scotto in 2016.
“It’s very humbling,” Sobel said of his re-election. “I’m looking forward to working with Tony and all the other newly-elected candidates over the next four years.”
Scotto added: “… John and I will continue to work extremely hard for Clearfield County … and also to be fiscal stewards.” And while many difficulties lie ahead, both vowed to work to resolve them.
The third spot for the commissioners’ office still hung in the balance at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to Commissioner Mark B. McCracken, board of elections chairman.
He said election machines in Coalport weren’t closed out correctly so vote totals couldn’t be retrieved. The machines were brought back Wednesday for IT Director Adam Curry to retrieve 96 votes.
With 69 of 70 precincts and absentees counted Tuesday night, Glass led Kovalick by a narrow margin of 53 votes. After the final tally, Glass claimed the last commissioner seat.
Glass finished the race with 6,425 votes and Kovalick with 6,375 votes, a difference of just 50 votes. He previously served on the Clearfield Area school board including as board president.
“I am humbled and honored that over 6,400 voters chose me to help guide the county,” Glass said in a statement to GANT News on Wednesday morning.
“I thank my opponents for running a very clean, issues-focused race. I have pledged to work to make the county more transparent and accessible for all constituents, and I will work hard to follow through on that pledge.
“I look forward to working with Commissioners Scotto and Sobel for the next four years and congratulate each of them on their re-election.”
